As a registered security guard, you have certain responsibilities to the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services and your employer. In order to prevent possible denial or revocation of your registration card, it is important that you are aware of the following:
•Security guards must meet several requirements before they begin work. These requirements include submitting your application by mail or online (only guards can apply online at this time) with the required fees to the Bureau.
•Submitting your fingerprints to the Department of Justice via Live Scan immediately and include a copy of the completed live scan form with the application and fees to the Bureau.
•Live Scan fingerprint are sometimes rejected by the Department of Justice and/or the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for being illegible. If the fingerprints are rejected, you will receive a reject letter from the Bureau and you will be instructed to have your fingerprints redone.
•While on duty you are required to possess a valid security guard registration or a screen-printout of the Bureau's approval from the Bureau's Web site at www.bsis.ca.gov , along with a valid California photo identification.
•A security guard who carries a gun or a baton must have a valid exposed firearm permit and/or a valid baton certificate.
•If you move or change your address, you must notify the Bureau within 30 days, or you may be issued an administrative fine.
•If your employer or any instructor encourages you to violate any of the above requirements, you may report them to the Bureau in writing.
•AT THE END OF EACH SECTION, you will be asked several questions to assist you in reviewing how well you UNDERSTOOD and REMEMBERED what you read. You are required to get 100% before moving on, once answers are submitted and found incorrect, you will have an opportunity to review the material and re-submit your answers, as necessary.
